 | Germany has come under pressure from Turkey |
Germany has come under pressure from Turkey to investigate a building fire which killed nine Turkish immigrants and saw one woman throw her baby to safety from third-floor window. Ankara's call for an investigation came on Tuesday, amid reports that the fire in Ludwigshafen in southwestern Germany was started deliberately.
"We expect German authorities to carry out a comprehensive investigation, taking into account every possibility, and to prosecute the perpetrators if the fire was started deliberately," the Turkish foreign ministry said. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey's prime minister, said the four adults and five children killed in the blaze, and 20 of the 60 people injured, were Turkish.

 | Microsoft offers to buy Yahoo! |
As if having a huge monopoly in the PC operating system market wasn't enough, Microsoft now has its eyes on the search engine business, and has now put in an unsolicited offer to buy Yahoo! for $44.6 billion US.
The directors at Yahoo! are currently in talks about whether to accept the takeover bid or not, claiming that they will 'evaluate this proposal carefully and promptly in the context of Yahoo!'s strategic plans and pursue the best course of action to maximize long-term value for shareholders.'
Microsoft's often over-enthusiastic CEO Steve Ballmer explained that 'We have great respect for Yahoo!, and together we can offer an increasingly exciting set of solutions for consumers, publishers and advertisers while becoming better positioned to compete in the online services market.'

Shrugging off worries about global recession and a credit crunch, the Turkish property market is expected to perform well this year, with average price increases in the resorts of 15 per cent forecast - or higher in some of the coastal hotspots.
